The INITIATION process is explored as having an important role in the breakdown of the ego. A necessary process of the growth and integration of the self once hidden in the shadows of the unconscious. The initiation process can be seen as a metaphoric death of the self on the path to individuation, the process through which a person achieves a sense of individuality separate from the identities of others and begin to consciously exist as a human in the world.
